Day: 52
Mile: 5897
Today is Gary’s birthday. We traveled from Tok, Alaska to Grizzly Lake Campgrounds. The drive took us along the Tok Cutoff toward Anchorage. Technically we are no longer on the Alaska Canada Highway as the highway continued north from Tok up to Fairbanks where the Alaska Canada Highway ends.
We arrived early so we could enjoy our campsite right on the lake and I had time to create a bit of a party for Gary’s birthday. The mosquitoes met us and I could all most hear them humming, “Fresh meat!”
We watched the Trumpeter Swans swim by, I made a rustic fruit tart and Kaizen played with Happy the camp Great Pyrenees. My plan was to make spaghetti for dinner, until we met our neighbors. They were on their way home to Victoria, Canada. They told us about their fishing adventures then asked if we would like some fresh halibut. Between mosquito swats, I said, “Are you kidding?” So change of menu. Gary was thrilled as we had looked for some fresh fish for his birthday dinner and couldn’t find any in Tok.
A huge Thank You for all the cards, the wine and the cigar. Gary had a great 69th birthday on Grizzly Lake in spite of the mosquitos. And a big Thank You to Karen and Lonny Trapp for the halibut!!!
