Beach time

Days: 75-78

We are camping on the Homer Spit, surrounded by massive amounts of water and beach. As many of you know, the sea and the beach demands your attention. There is constant change happening on a beach. It can entertain me for days. So Homer is about beach time.

Our campsite is about in the middle of this image. It’s low tide, however, when the tide is high it can come up to the edge of the stone beach just below the weathered log in the photo below.

We are taking lots of walks. The beaches are smooth, mostly flat stones, shaped and polished by their time in the glacier. The Homer Spit also has a few restaurants, bars, tourist shops and a marina. And like most towns on the edge of the ocean, there is a memorial to those lost at sea. Below are some images from our exploring the Homer Spit.

Most of our time here has been spent looking out over the water, beach combing, watching the fishermen, checking out the boats, basically getting our beach “fix”. We have one more day of beach time. The day after tomorrow we are going fishing for halibut and king salmon. One other item on our agenda is planning our trip home. We have not discussed which route we are taking and what we want to see so, when we can tear ourselves away from the beach we are looking at maps and researching the long road home.

So much beauty in every picture. It becomes too much to take in at one time. You have amassed memories to talk about forever. What a fortune!
