What’s the “Alcan”?

When we say we are going to travel the “Alcan” we get a lot of puzzled looks. The Alaska Highway, also known as the Alaska Canada Highway, is often referred to as the “Alcan”.

The Alaska Highway was constructed during World War II to connect the contiguous United States to Alaska across Canada. It begins at the junction with several Canadian highways in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and runs to Delta Junction, Alaska, via Whitehorse, Yukon.

We will enter Canada in Vancouver and head to Dawson Creeks and Mile 0 of the Alcan Highway on June 21.
